Om Mozilla Europe

Mozillaprojektet sigter efter at opretholde frit valg og nyskabelse på internettet. For at opnå dette producerer og leverer Mozillaprojektet internetbrowseren Firefox og e-mail-klienten Thunderbird samt andre produkter og teknologier, eksempelvis Bugzilla.

Mission

Mozilla Europes mission er at understøtte Mozillaprojektet ved at udvikle, udbrede og fremme den frie Mozilla software, dens biprodukter og relaterede projekter i Europa.

Mozilla Europes mission er beskrevet i detaljer i foreningens vedtægter.

Mozilla Europe vil særligt arbejde på følgende emner:

  • Samarbejde med lokale, regionale og nationale Mozillafællesskaber for at fremme Mozilla og de afledte produkter på Europæisk plan;
  • Opfordre uafhængige udviklere, universiteter, firmaer og administrationer til at bidrage til Mozillaprojektet, enten vet at producere kildekode eller ved at financiere projektet;

Bidragydernes motivationer

Hver bidragyder til Mozilla har sine egne grunde til at afsætte tid og energi til st så enormt samlet projekt. Blandt de oftest hørte svar:

  1. At levere en moderne internetbrowser og e-mail-klient til et stort udvalg af platforme samt at fremme tilsvarende uafhængige programmer og deres underliggende teknologier.
  2. Glæden ved at lære fra og bidrage til at implementere de nyeste standarder og teknologier, som HTML, CSS, XML og XSLT, blandt en gruppe af glimrende hackere bakket op af et aktivt, effektivt fællesskab.
  3. Muligheden for at være en del af et verdensomspændende projekt, der spænder over kulturer, sprog, kontinenter og tidszoner.

Mozilla Europes bestyrelse

Mozilla Europe er en non-profit organisation under den franske lov Association Loi 1901. Foreningen er danne af mange forskellige personer, som bidrager til Mozillaprojektet og andre projekter vedrørende fri software. Den nuværende bestyrelse består af:

Tristan Nitot, (Formand)
For the past 20 last years, Tristan has been working with computers and, more recently, the Internet. He held various positions in several domains such as computer training, technical support, pre-sales and business development. His last position was with Netscape where he spent 7 years, recently as the Technology and Standards evangelist for Europe. In his scarce free time, Tristan also founded the OpenWebGroup, which he still leads. Tristan, as of mid-2005, has been hired by Mozilla Europe to manage Marketing and PR activities, among others. Tristan speaks French and English.
Jean-Christophe Lapprand, (Treasurer)
Jean-Christophe has held various positions with software vendors or software distribution companies for more than 25 years, and was one of the founders and CEO of PartnerSoft. He has spent 5 years developing partnerships and solutions on Netscape Platforms in Europe. Jean-Christophe is a French citizen. He speaks French, English and German.
Pascal Chevrel, (Secretary General)
Pascal is a long time mozilla community member. He created several end-user support resources and participated in the creation of two Spanish-speaking mozilla-related community portals. In 2005, Pascal wrote a French book about Firefox & Thunderbird. Pascal is currently in charge of Web localization and community development with a specific focus on Spain where he is a spokesperson for the Mozilla project. Pascal speaks English, French, Spanish and some Catalan.
Peter Van der Beken
Peter was a contributor to Mozilla before he was hired by Netscape to keep contributing professionally. He is now DOM co-module owner, XML module owner and XSLT module owner, and he represented Netscape within the W3C XSL Working group. Peter is also a super-reviewer, which demonstrates his expertise in the overall Mozilla project. Peter, as of mid-2005, has been hired by Mozilla Europe to code full-time for the Mozilla project. Peter is a Belgian citizen and speaks Dutch, French and English.
Axel Hecht
Axel holds a PhD in mathematics and is also a Mozilla contributor since 1999. He is module owner of RDF and has been working with Peter for several years to enhance XSLT support in the product. Axel is contracting with the Mozilla Corporation for Localization project management, platform development and technical marketing/evangelism. Axel has organised the European Developer Days in 2001, 2002 and 2004. Axel is a German citizen and speaks both German and English.
Zbigniew Braniecki
Zbigniew is a member of MozillaPL and one of the leaders in the AviaryPL team. He has been interested in the Mozilla project since 2001 and is actively contributing since 2005. Zbigniew focusses on the internationalization of the Mozilla products and promotion of Mozilla technologies in Eastern Europe. Zbigniew is working for a British company, is a Polish citizen, and speaks both Polish and English.

Former Board Members

Jan Varga
Jan, a Slovak citizen, has contributed to Mozilla for several years. At his University, he authored a thesis which included client development based on XUL (the XML application used in Mozilla to describe the User Interface). Jan then joined Netscape to work on Mozilla. Jan lives in Ruzomberok, in Slovak Republic and speaks Slovak and English.
Olivier Meunier
Olivier is a free software developer. As such, he has created and still maintains the DotClear project, a standards-compliant accessible weblog tool. Olivier is also an OpenWebGroup contributor, founder of the APINC Association, where he held the treasurer's position. Olivier, as of mid 2005, has been hired by Mozilla Europe to manage and improve our CMS. Olivier speaks French and English.
